Crush 40's Johnny Gioeli sues Sega over ownership of "Live and Learn"
- Crush 40's Johnny Gioeli has sued Sega of America over the repeated use of "Live and Learn" since the release of Sonic Adventure 2.
- Gioeli claims the song has been used in at least 25 different games after Sonic Adventure 2, which he was not aware of.
- Gioeli seeks a court ruling declaring him owner of the master recording and payment for the unlicensed use of the song.
"Live and Learn", the infamous theme song from Sonic Adventure 2, is at the center of a lawsuit, but it has nothing to do with its use in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3. According to a report by Polygon's Nicole Carpenter, Crush 40 lead singer Johnny Gioelli filed a lawsuit against Sega of America earlier this month for breach of contract, alleging that he owns the copyrights for the song's "master recording and composition" and that Sega has not acquired the licenses to use the song outside the original release of Sonic Adventure 2 and so has not paid him for its use. According to the lawsuit, "Live and Learn" has been used in at least 25 different games.
