- SEGA announced a new 2D platformer title, Sonic Superstars, at Summer Game Fest

During today's Summer Game Fest presentation, SEGA announced an all new classic 2D platforming adventure in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Sonic Superstars. The game features classic Sonic gameplay with the ability to play as Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails, Knuckles the Echidna, or Amy Rose. Unlike the classic Sonic titles, however, the game features a new, CGI look to the characters and world.
According to the reveal trailer, the game will allow one to play solo or with other players. It will also feature new abilities and powers, like climbing up waterfalls and running on walls, which according to the website, are possible through the power of the Chaos Emeralds. The trailer features gameplay with all four characters and ends with a tease of Fang the Sniper.
In addition to the trailer, a website has already launched for the game. It describes the game as taking place in the mystical Northsatr Islands, where Dr. Eggman, Fang, and a new adversary seek to convert the islands' giant animals into Badniks. The game will feature 4-player local co-op for the entire campaign, a first for the series.
According to a press release, the game will bring a new standard of play to the classic high-speed 2D Sonic platforming gameplay. it will feature new zones, music, gameplay, and modern 3D graphics. Sonic designer Naoto Ohshima designed the new adversary. It will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, and will cost $59.99.
Sonic Superstars is set to be released sometime this fall.
