- Sonic Superstars and Sonic Frontiers made appearances at this year's Gamescom
- Sonic Superstars multiplayer trailer revealed an October 17 release date.
- Sonic Frontiers featured a teaser for its final update, the Final Horizon update.
Sonic fans got extra lucky today during this year's Gamescom Opening Night Live event. Both Sonic Superstars and Sonic Frontiers made appearances during the event, with the former getting a full minute-long trailer, while the latter got a short teaser.
The Sonic Superstars trailer, titled "Multiplayer Trailer", features more gameplay from the trailer, specifically the multiplayer gameplay. You'll be able to play with up to three friends during the main campaign, or play an online battle mode. The online battle mode appears to feature playing as customizable robots, and some of the playable bots appear to include Mecha Knuckles. It also appears to include both a battle royale-style mode and a race mode.
Pre-orders of the game will include an exclusive LEGO Dr. Eggman character skin in the game, an acrylic display stand, and a reversible cover on physical editions of the game. This last one is somethign SEGA has done as tradition on classic Sonic titles since Sonic Mania. The Digital Deluxe edition bonuses were also revealed. This includes the LEGO Fun Pack, which features LEGO Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, a Sonic Rabbit skin based on early sketches of Sonic the Hedgehog during development of Sonic the Hedgehog, exclusive mech parts for battle mode that appear similar to Mecha Sonic from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, a digital artbook, mini original soundtrack, and bonus main menu wallpapers. As our friends over at Sonic Stadium point out, SEGA has a tendency to re-release the digital deluxe bonuses separately as DLC later on (see: Sonic Mania and Sonic Origins), so you may be able to hold off buying the game twice if you want to get the physical edition of the game.
As for Sonic Frontiers, a short teaser was revealed. The sub-minute clip doesn't reveal much; it features Sonic, Dr. Eggman, Knuckles, Amy, Tails, and Sage come across a giant Titan. Amy, Knuckles, and Tails appear in their Cyberspace forms, while Sonic uses the Chaos Emeralds to become Super Sonic. However, he then transforms even further, seemingly summoning even more power from the Emeralds. The trailer concludes by revealing that the update will feature a new story, new playable characters—which were previously confirmed to be Amy, Tails, and Knuckles—, and new challenges. The Final Horizon Update will be available for free on September 28. It's expected to be the final major update to Sonic Frontiers.
